Historic

We have an historic cemetery in our city. The Fairview Cemetery, established in 1900. Here is a headstone from this cemetary. Sorry you can't read the dates very well, but they read:
Born 1881
Died 1918

Fairview Cemetery. There are soldiers from the Civil War buried here.
This is a one room school house. It has now been turned into a museum.

This is the T.J. Dicks house. It's a certified national historical home. To be "certified" means that NO improvements have been made to the home. It is in it's original state. If you look close to the bottom of the picture, you can see a cement backwards L that is close to the street. That is actually a step for the women to use when getting out of their horse drawn carriage. There is also a tie down on it for the horse. This house is made completely out of wood that was washed into this area from the storm of 1900 in Galveston. This house was completed in 1904. The current owners are in the process of making it into a bed and breakfast. Rumor has it, there are 3 ghosts that inhabit the house. Three children of T.J. Dicks died inside the house and their ghosts are haunting it.

This is the Butler Building. It was built in 1837. It was the first brick building in all of Galveston County. It held the bank, real estate office, doctors office and post office. The original safe from the bank is still inside.

Hope you enjoyed your tour of Historic League City Texas!

  3. They aren't bad at all! I really like them! I love some of the old buildings in Texas (though it has been a looong time since I was there).
